Frequently Asked Questions – Elite Wooden Floors

Welcome to the Elite Wooden Floors FAQ page. Here you’ll find answers to common questions about engineered oak flooring, hybrid flooring, installation, floor preparation, delivery, showroom visits, and maintenance.

Engineered Oak Flooring

What is engineered oak flooring?

Engineered oak flooring is made using a real oak timber veneer layered over a stable plywood or hardwood core. It provides the natural beauty of timber flooring while offering improved stability and performance for Australian homes.

What is the difference between 3mm and 6mm veneer engineered oak?

A thicker veneer generally provides a more premium feel and allows for additional sanding and refinishing over time. 6mm veneer products are considered a high-end option suitable for luxury residential and commercial projects.

Is engineered oak flooring waterproof?

Engineered oak flooring is water resistant but not fully waterproof. Spills should be cleaned promptly, and excessive moisture exposure should be avoided.

Can engineered flooring be installed over concrete?

Yes. Engineered oak flooring can be installed over concrete subfloors when proper moisture barriers and floor preparation methods are used.

Hybrid Flooring

What is hybrid flooring?

Hybrid flooring combines the durability of laminate with the waterproof performance of vinyl flooring. It is a popular option for busy family homes and modern renovations.

Is hybrid flooring waterproof?

Most hybrid flooring products are waterproof or highly water resistant, making them suitable for kitchens, living areas, and many residential environments.

Can hybrid flooring be installed over tiles?

In many cases, yes. Existing tiles may be covered if the surface is level and properly prepared. Additional floor levelling may be required depending on tile joints and subfloor condition.

What is the difference between 6.5mm, 8mm, 9mm, and 12mm hybrid flooring?

Thicker hybrid flooring generally offers improved underfoot feel, acoustic performance, stability, and larger pattern variation. Premium 12mm hybrid flooring is often selected for high-end residential projects.

Installation & Floor Preparation

Do you provide flooring installation?

Yes. Elite Wooden Floors provides professional flooring installation services across Melbourne for engineered oak, hybrid flooring, herringbone, chevron, and parquetry flooring.

Do I need floor preparation before installation?

Most flooring projects require some level of floor preparation to ensure proper installation performance. This may include grinding, levelling compound, moisture barriers, or crack repairs.

How long does flooring installation take?

Installation time depends on project size, floor preparation requirements, and flooring type. Smaller residential projects may take 1–2 days, while larger projects can take longer.

Do you install herringbone flooring?

Yes. We supply and install engineered oak herringbone flooring and hybrid herringbone flooring for residential and commercial projects.

Sanding & Polishing

Can old timber floors be sanded and polished?

Yes. Existing timber floors can often be restored through sanding and polishing to improve appearance and extend floor life.

What finishes are available for timber floor polishing?

Common finishes include matte, satin, gloss, water-based coatings, and oil-based finishes depending on the desired appearance and performance.
