Floor Preparation

Floor preparation is an essential step before installation. It can include:

  • Removing any existing flooring
  • Examining the subfloor for any issues, such as cracks and uneven surfaces, and repairing it in order to create a stable base for your new floors
  • Sanding, grinding, cleaning and so on of the subfloor
  • Laying down underlay, which is a cushioning layer for your floors that can provide acoustic noise reductions, insulation and generally supporting your new floors.

Different subfloors require different materials for preparation.

Plywood installation is another category of Floor Preparation. If there exists a sudden drop in elevation on your subfloors, Plywood can be used to flush the surface.

General Installation

General Installation

The two most common methods of installation are floating and glue-down.

Floating requires the planks to feature a locking system the laying of underlay. The planks are then simply placed and locked together to each adjacent plank ontop of your existing floor or subfloor. This method can reduce the workload of Floor Preparation.

Glue-down is simply glueing down the planks. This method will give you a more solid feedback when stepping on the floor, but the subfloor will require more preparation and cleaning up beforehand.

For the installation of stairs, Stair Nosing is a necessary item to have. They are essentially the edges of your stairs and can be custom made according to the planks you have chosen.
