Floor Preparation

Whether installing carpet, tile, hardwood, or vinyl flooring, floor preparation is a crucial first step. The new flooring will be installed accurately, last longer, and have a nicer appearance if the floor is properly prepared.

Here are some additional floor preparation advice and ideas:

Identify the subfloor type: The first step is to identify the subfloor type you have. The area below the flooring is known as the subfloor. It might be made of wood, concrete, or a combination of the two. The preparation measures required will depend on the type of subfloor.

Check the subfloor: Look for any damage or unevenness in the subfloor. Before beginning the installation, fix any fractures, holes, or other damage.

Consider leaving a little gap around the corners of the room to allow for expansion depending on the type of flooring you're installing. For the recommended gap size, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

When placing flooring in a basement or other below-grade space, take moisture into consideration. Think about putting in a moisture barrier or utilising a flooring material that resists moisture.

These measures will help you ensure that your new flooring is laid on a properly prepared surface, extending its lifespan and improving its appearance.

Make sure the subfloor is clean and clear of any dust, grime, or other obstructions. To get rid of any loose debris, thoroughly sweep or vacuum the subfloor.

Level the subfloor: You must level the subfloor if it is uneven. Fill up any low spots using a self-leveling product to produce a smooth, level surface. Before continuing with the installation, give the compound time to cure completely.

Remove any existing flooring: If you're replacing an existing floor with new flooring, you must thoroughly remove the old flooring. Any glue or residue that might be left behind falls under this category.

Different subfloors require different materials for preparation, and the normal cost for preparation starts from $120 per bag.
