When it comes to choosing Australian Species floors, there are two major things to consider; species and grading. We've put a little bit of information here to make your selection easier!

Species Selection:

1. Blackbutt: Embrace the timeless beauty of Blackbutt timber, available in both Rustic Graded and Standard Plus Graded options. With a classic tongue & groove profile, these boards offer durability and elegance. These boards have eye-catching natural characteristics like some knots and varieties of wood grain patterning. The board colouring is more consistent than Spotted Gum, with most of the variety being in the tone rather than the shade.

2. Southern Blackbutt: Experience the warmth of Southern Blackbutt wood, offered only as a 136mm wide Rustic Graded board. Its natural appeal will elevate any room. When it comes to the variety of boards, the variety is comparable to your standard Blackbutt. The characteristics found on the board are a little less distinctive, but there's slightly more variance in the tones of Southern Blackbutt, though still not as much as you would expect to find in Spotted Gum.

3. Spotted Gum: Choose Spotted Gum for its distinctive grain and rich tones. Whether you prefer Rustic Graded or Standard Plus Graded boards, you'll enjoy the lasting quality and sophistication. Spotted Gum has quite striking features; each board tends to have a range of colours present, with some dramatic characteristics like large rippling grains and knots which are long and thin, as opposed to the small but rounder ones found in other species.

4. Victorian Ash: Victorian Ash, with its creamy hues and sunrise-esque highlights, adds a touch of elegance to your home. These floorboards come in a 170mm wide Standard Plus Grade. Victorian Ash is a very close cousin to Tasmanian Oak, but is generally lighter in tone than its island cousin. Vic Ash also often features a pink hue to it, similar to the colouring of a sunset, which can create a very unique atmosphere in your home! It's the "cleanest" of the options that we stock, but it does still have some distinctive wood grains which run more straight than its counterparts, and knots are less common.

Grading:
Grading of Australian timbers doesn't always indicate the quality of the wood. It's more of an indicator for its characteristic profile. Rustic graded timber is likely to have more distinctive features like knots and grains, and those features will be more common compared to a Standard Plus graded timber. All our Australian timber has been responsibly sourced and milled, and none of our timber is reclaimed timber. 

Installation:
